If I enter a PhD program to specialize in English history do I need to speak 1 or 2 foreign languages?

niceguyjohn84 asked:

The program has a non-terminal MA if that makes a difference. So will I be counted like an American specialist and only need to speak one foreign language plus English or will I be treated like a Europian specialist and need to speak two foreign languages plus English?

A asked:

Is it good to know as many languages as possible? I want to be a high school teacher when I’m done with college. Would this look good on my resume?

Or instead of using my electives for foreign languages, should I use the electives on more education courses?

TL asked:

Some of the top 30 colleges on USNews recommend 4 years of foreign languages. How much of an impact is it going to make if I don’t have 4 years?

I know USNews isn’t always right, but if my parents consider its rankings sacred, then I have no choice but to go by it.
