If I enter a PhD program to specialize in English history do I need to speak 1 or 2 foreign languages?
The program has a non-terminal MA if that makes a difference. So will I be counted like an American specialist and only need to speak one foreign language plus English or will I be treated like a Europian specialist and need to speak two foreign languages plus English?
Is it good to take foreign languages courses in college?
Is it good to know as many languages as possible? I want to be a high school teacher when I’m done with college. Would this look good on my resume?
Or instead of using my electives for foreign languages, should I use the electives on more education courses?
How important are foreign languages for top 30 colleges?
Some of the top 30 colleges on USNews recommend 4 years of foreign languages. How much of an impact is it going to make if I don’t have 4 years?
I know USNews isn’t always right, but if my parents consider its rankings sacred, then I have no choice but to go by it.
Do colleges count foreign languages as electives?
At my school, taking a foreign language counts as taking an elective. But at some of the colleges I’ve looked at list foreign languages and electives as separate categories. What’s the deal?
