Today learning English language is very important, not to say really essential. Once children started learning English just since the junior high, today everything is different.

English language teaching classes start from day nursery, where children attending the “courses”, beyond coming all from different countries, can learn English by playing. Through the use of very easy songs, they will mainly learn colors and animals. The precocious teaching of English language pursuits the final goal to make children grow up and get a multicultural education. As we were saying and as everybody can notice, today our country is made up of different cultures, there are a lot of children coming from different countries attending the English primary school, many different cultures, many languages, many customs and traditions. The learning of a foreign language, especially English, through a deep relationship between language and culture, contribute to enrich children’s cognitive background, making them expand their mental and cultural horizons. But in Italy a lot of people still can’t speak English. Our country always ranks in the last places among other European countries regarding citizens’ foreign languages knowledge. But being able to speak correctly two foreign languages is certainly very useful. First of all English, that since many years has been considered the most important language at international level. Now it should be spoken as well as Italian language.

To do so, it is very useful that children learn a foreign language since nursery school, when their mind is still free from a lot of notions and ready to store up new information. Since the age of two and half years, (but some researchers say also before this age), a child is able to learn very well even more than one foreign language and as adult he will speak all of them in the same way, as they all were their mother tongue. This is the main advantage to make learn a foreign language (and we are talking especially about English) since child. It is certain that children will surely make less effort than an adult to learn English language (or another foreign language, maybe even more than one). An useful advice is to speak English also at home and Italian outside home. This way a child can learn both languages at the same level. Since today it seems that bilingualism also has a positive effect on our brain, as this Padova International School can tell. A research from the York University of Toronto in Canada, has even shown that people, who daily speak fluently two foreign languages, have a strong chance to delay of several years the arise of some kind of dementia such as the Alzheimer’s disease. But also if you are not bilingual yet, you can start now. You can sign up for a specific English course and attend weekly classes in the evening.

These all are courses with fee that also issue a certificate of attendance. At the end of the course, you will have to take an exam both oral and written hold by the Padova English school to get this certificate. But if you want to self taught, you can buy booklet periodically sold at the newsstand, regarding the foreign language with included an inset and a CD ROM. This is a new and valid way, not to underestimate, and if taken seriously, will surely give the expected results in a little time. After a bit of practice you will be the master of bilingualism.

Online Learning is Fun

Remember this the next time you are on line at the bank or the grocery store doctors office waiting at a red light etc. There is one Hawaiian Island, Ni’ihau, where the Hawaiian language is still predominantly spoken. This island is privately owned, and tourism there is rejected in favor of a traditional way of life for its inhabitants. . Many businesses will contribute to or pay for an employees training or education.

Why learn foreign languages? Why would anyone want to learn someone else’s language? Obviously there are a lot of reasons and if the question is on your mind then you probably have a desire or need to learn a language yourself. Though language can create a sense of unity among individual cultures a worldwide monoglot culture would inevitably be biased limiting cultural diversity and obscuring a true view of much of the relevant ideology of different cultures existent throughout the world.

Language is continuously adapting to cultural change. Within every culture issues and basic ways of life are forever altering influencing language alteration along with it. There is one Hawaiian Island, Ni’ihau, where the Hawaiian language is still predominantly spoken. This island is privately owned, and tourism there is rejected in favor of a traditional way of life for its inhabitants. . When a British English speaker asks the question: how are you s/he doesn’t expect a lengthy reply about the state of the respondent’s health. If an American says ‘let’s get together some time’ s/he may be saying no more than ‘goodbye’ . But today scientists ask the question who the Celts really are. See http://www.learnforeignlanguage.us/learning-foreign-language/index.html

Elementary schools should implement programs to teach their students a foreign language. All in all language schools that provide industry-specific language courses and classes can be a great addition to your generalized language study helping you reach the higher level of proficiency you are looking for. By taking advantage of these courses and all they offer you will definitely reach that level.

You can learn at anywhere you like, in your car while trapped in traffic jam, while waiting for commuter to arrive or fishing at Lake Garden, by means of many types of medium such as cassette, CD and the Internet, for example at Malay Language mypositivemoney where you will find a good resource of foreign language. . Turbo Language LLC.

Imagine yourself in a beautiful foreign country, where everything is new to you. You walk along the beautiful streets, and you dine at one of its restaurants. The only thing that is bothering you is that you just cannot understand what the locals are talking about. Baffling isn’t it? Despite the wonderful sites of a place, when you do not understand the people around you, you can’t help but feel a little lost. This is why you should start learning a foreign language, maybe just the basics. This may take some time and a lot of discipline; however, it can be very rewarding once you know what’s going on around you.

Make Traveling More Enjoyable

The best thing about traveling is being able to explore the amazing beauty of various countries and to partake in their festivities. However, your experience will never be complete until you know about the history of the place and a little about their language. A lot of people who speak English think that it is okay to use the language, wherever they may go. Some believe that learning a foreign language has no use. This kind of perception is one hundred percent false. When you know something about the language of the country which you are visiting, you will be greatly benefited with the following:

- You get to communicate with the local residents and make new acquaintances wherever you go.

- You will be able to read the signs on the road and the menus at restaurants.

- You will be able to understand the movies of the country which you are visiting.

Makes Your Work Easier

If your work requires you to talk with clients of diverse nationalities, then you have to learn foreign languages. This will make your work easier, plus, the big boss will see you as a worthy employee. If you know how to speak another language, you may be sent to other countries as a part of your work or you may even get a promotion. Learning another language is a plus when it comes to your work. Meeting with a foreign client does not require an interpreter anymore. And, your client will not feel awkward talking in your language because you can understand his.

Enhance Your Knowledge about Other Countries

If you are the type of person who is interested in learning about the culture of other countries, then it is important for you to learn their language also. Once you are familiar with a country’s language, you will be able to understand its literature, its films, music or poetry. You will be able to gain more information about the country without difficulty. It is always nice to learn about the culture and the language of other places around the globe because you will never know when you might end up there.

The Best Ways to Learn a Foreign Language

There are a lot of ways to learn a foreign language and the following are just some of it:

- Self-teaching method – learn the language by yourself with the use of audio cassettes, CDs, videotapes or, vocabulary books. A lot of these are found in bookstores or in libraries.

- Visit foreign sites – currently, more and more sites over the Internet are offering lessons on foreign languages.

- Watch foreign movies or television series – there are a lot of foreign movies from which you can choose from. These movies have subtitles which will help you learn another language. The more you keep watching the movies of a certain country, the more you will learn about their native tongue.

- Take up foreign language classes – the best thing about taking up classes like these is that you will have a teacher to guide you through the course, plus, you will also be able to keep track of what you have learned.

There are people who just love to learn foreign languages. They are in love with new words, the construction of sentences, and the musicality of the new language they acquire.

On the other hand, there are people who learn foreign languages because they need it. Most universities have foreign languages in their curriculum for their students. Some need it for their jobs, as an added skill.

Whether it be want or a need, learning languages will never fail to tickle our curiosity and imagination. Here are some things that foreign languages can bring into our lives:

Enhance Your Career Potentials

Knowing how to speak in a foreign tongue or two is a big advantage in the very competitive jobs market. If you have the skill to speak in different languages, it will open doors for promotions in your office or placement in a very good opportunity abroad.

Deepen your Perspective

Understanding how other people from different countries speak gives you a chance to immerse yourself in their culture. You can start appreciating films, music, literature, plays, and other things from foreign lands. Thus, you can enrich you view of life through foreign languages

Enjoy Your Holidays

When you visit another country for a holiday or as a tourist, there is an apparent lack of communication, a wall between you and the locals. If you know how to speak their language, this barrier is hurdled and you can immerse yourself into how their day to day life is. Ask questions in their native tongue and you can definitely get the best answers and recommendations to make the most out of your vacation.

Improve Your Marketability

Language skills being posted in your curriculum vitae will attract the attention of the HR department, the boss, and most companies. If you know to speak Chinese, French, German, or any other language they will see you as an asset to achieve their goals. So if you have mastered a language, by all means include it in your CV.

Increase Awareness of Other Culture and Race

Knowing a foreign language gives you a chance to learn about the history of other nations and races. This gives you the opportunity to compare the strengths and weaknesses of your own country and people. From there, you can figure out the differences that may count to improve your life.

Win More Friends and Make Life More Meaningful

Language traverse borders and you can win a lot of new friends if you can communicate better. Comfort zones are establish and you will realize that people open up to you for the reason that you sound or talk like the way they do.

Broaden Your Choices for Education

If you are thinking of the best universities for a certain field of interest, you can discard the limitations of your own geographical boundaries. You may consider overseas schools that can offer better programs or cheaper courses. The languages that you know will help you blend in and adapt easily to life in a foreign university.

Learning a New Language is Fun

Anyone will have a smile when you divert from your usual ABC’s and 123’s. It enriches your being when you hear the sound of different language and learn the basics of a different tongue.

I have been learning Japanese on my own ever since I started developing feelings toward the language. I find studying another language is fun and a great way of understanding other language. Personally, I find learning other languages easy especially when someone who speaks the language is teaching me. However, I find learning on my own enjoyable just the same. If you want to learn other language than your own, I suggest you seriously make up your mind first before starting anything because your determination and focusing will help you reach your goal or learning the language. Put effort as well as time on the learning process and I assure you that you will achieve what you want in due time.

Basically, learning foreign language is like eating a cake as a whole but it is guaranteed that you will definitely not be able to eat the whole thing all at once. You have to slice the cake into manageable chunks for your mouth to handle.

Same is true with learning another language other than your own. You need to break it down to units and organize them so that things will be a lot easier later on. Start with the overview and basic things to learn. Here alone, you may find it a little confusing especially if you want to take things all at the same time. Well, don’t. Spending 15-20 minutes per unit of the language is enough each day. Your attention span could not last longer than not, human as you are. You need to absorb the information first before you take on another session.

Having someone to listen to when learning another language is also another important key for you to learn how the language is spoken and in order for you to get to feel the first hand experience of hearing someone talk. At first glance, you may find this one a little difficult especially if you do not really know anyone who speaks the language.

However, there are some ways to alleviate this posing problem. In my case, I watched way too many anime DVDs and also watched online. They speak the Japanese language quite clearly if you have a sense of speed in grasping. In all other language, if you can’t hire someone to teach you, you can do little search for sites with mp3s or wav files of foreign language audios that can be downloaded. I assure you there really are a lot of them in the internet.

Write down notes as much as possible during your learning process. I find this very important in learning because I can remember things faster if I wrote them down myself. You can do this too. For example, I write down notes while watching anime DVDs. I find this really helpful in my 15-20 minutes session in learning the language. You see, learning a foreign language will require a lot of effort and time. If you doubt you can make it, I suggest you don’t start. If in any case you are determined to finish the whole course even if you are only self-studying then by any means, go ahead.

crucial aspect in learning a foreign language is the amount of time you commit to surrounding yourself with it. The more experience you have with the language, the quicker you’ll pick it up. This equates to hearing, seeing, using, and scrutinizing the lingo.

It does not translate into sitting at some desk daydreaming out the window, nor getting advice from poor speakers, nor obtaining all the answers in your own tongue. It involves being happily connected to the language you are studying.

Rock out to language learning on your MP3 player. Read what you’re hearing. Listen to and read items you have a particular interest in, items you can easily or mostly comprehend. As you continue at it you will grow more and more accustomed to the tongue. Just an hour of alone time is usually much more progressive than several of course time.

Beef up that vocabulary – you’ll require droves. Pay close attention to how words merge into phrases. Acquire more vocabulary via your ears and eyes. Make your own word lists to quiz yourself on using online resources. Don’t stress how well you can talk the talk until you’ve amassed a mountain of foreign words by listening and reading.

Let’s face it, if you don’t truly desire to learn a lingo, it won’t magically happen on its own. If it actually is your desire, however, then seize power.

Select interesting things to learn, things that you will look forward to devoting time to. Then find the foreign equivalents that you will need to comprehend to do that.

Don’t expect the language to be handed to you on a silver platter; you need to go it your own, like when you were a babe first learning to talk. Speak the language when YOU feel like it. Compose foreign messages when it strikes your fancy. Whether its Spanish, French, Chinese or Swahili, no one can get you to being fluent in another language but yourself.

Don’t become stressed over the words you forget, can’t comprehend, or can’t say. What’s important is that you are progressing and growing.

The language will ultimately become clear to you in your mind – it will happen on a time frame that you can’t completely determine. Don’t forget to have fun and spend enough time on everything. That’s all you need to be sure of results.

Being in safe comfortable surroundings allows the learner to relax concentrate and give 100% to their language lessons and thus learning foreign language becomes easy and fun. Being fluent in Chinese will definitely make your relocation less stressful. Your local library probably has language learning resources that you can borrow, if you don’t want to start off the year with the expense of buying these materials. When studying on your own in this way, try to devote 10 minutes every day to a bit of study or revision, instead of doing 1 hour one day but then not finding the time to look at it again for a couple of months. . This has nothing to do with lacking an ability to learn foreign languages but more to do with laziness but why is this? Well quite simply the English language is the most commonly spoken language in the world. Therefore the need to learn foreign languages for native speakers of English is much less than a non native speaker who wants to get on in the world.

Put 10 random people together who are learning another foreign language and you will probably have 7 or 8 different reasons and 5 or 6 different languages. Every answer is valid. In today’s global economy the demand for language skills continues to grow as governments businesses and organizations build relationships with foreign interests. Learning a language is beneficial in employment for two reasons; 1) it offers those in established careers the chance to progress either through gaining promotions or international travel and experience and 2) it opens doors to new careers and employment opportunities. Your local library probably has language learning resources that you can borrow, if you don’t want to start off the year with the expense of buying these materials. When studying on your own in this way, try to devote 10 minutes every day to a bit of study or revision, instead of doing 1 hour one day but then not finding the time to look at it again for a couple of months. . Activities are needed to help the international business person use questioning techniques more effectively and match them to an appropriate communicative strategy. Alerting clients to the potential for misunderstanding for giving and taking offence for having progress frustrated through not knowing the cultural norms of language use is surely a field those training managers to work across cultures should not neglect . The Indo-European Family is generally considered to consist of nine different brunches which in turn gave rise to daughter languages. See http://www.learnforeignlanguage.us/capitalizing-the-benefits-of-a-foreign-language/index.html

There is funding available for elementary schools if they choose to apply to learn a new foreign language. Spanish is an official language on four continents and is of historical importance elsewhere’ This makes Spanish an excellent foreign language to learn. For example, you can find employment as a foreign language translator, either in the United States or aboard. You can also work as a teacher of English as a second language to students in Italy. . Next they would start learning language from similar or different points comparing with native language. The only advantage of this style is that you see the other language in the root which helps you comprehend foreign language as the whole and integral system.

Learning a foreign language is easier, such as Chinese, when understanding how you learn. The science of learning is based on several theories and include: multiple intelligences, right-brain/left-brain/whole-brain, and brain-based learning. Understanding how you learn new information becomes the keystone to effective study patterns and habits. Many people who attempt to learn a new language give up, primarily because they pick a program that does not fit their learning style. These people unknowingly try to fit their learning style into a program. The following discussion focuses on learning styles, ways of learning, and how to master second language usage.

Multiple Intelligences and Learning Styles

The theory of multiple intelligences, by Howard Gardner (Frames of mind: The theory of multiple intelligences., 1983), provides the foundation for the seven learning styles associated with this theory. They are:

- Verbal – Linguistic: use language and words to understand

- Logical – Mathematical: inductive and deductive reasoning in using numbers abstract patterns to analyze information

- Visual – Spatial: visualize objects/dimensions and create internal images/pictures to understand how something will or might work

- Body – Kinesthetic: control your body’s physical motion

- Musical – Rhythmic: recognize tonal patterns

- Interpersonal: person-to-person communications, relate with others

- Intrapersonal: spiritual, self-reflection, and awareness

Everyone has many styles of learning and one is dominate over all other learning styles. Knowledge of your dominate learning style helps identify which program to select for learning a second language. See the first link at the end of this article to spend a few minutes answering questions to determine your dominate learning style.

Left-Brain, Right-Brain, Whole Brain Learning

Most instruction in educational settings is left-brain oriented, which means a focus on logic and reasoning (Logical – Mathematical learning style). This approach does not emphasize understanding, because traditional education emphasizes rote memorization of facts. Right-brain activities focus on creativity, such as feelings and the arts (Sperry, R.).

A foreign language program needs to focus on a whole-brain approach to support dominate and non-dominate learning styles. This whole-brain approach focuses on comprehension, as learners are encouraged to describe a visual image, draw pictures, use reasoning, and act out situations in which the language is used to understand new language context. This is a very good method for learning new language vocabularies through contextual settings. See the second link at the end of this article to spend a few minutes answering questions to determine if you are left-brain or right-brain dominate.

Brain-Based Learning

According to brain-based learning research (McClean, P.), although each brain is unique, everyone can learn a foreign language such as Chinese. Better foreign language programs take advantage of brain-based research and dominate learning styles to using a whole-brain approach with the following techniques:

- Orchestrated – immersion into learning environments

- Relaxed – elimination or reduction of anxiety and still challenging

- Active – internalization of new knowledge by processing information

A program should not be strictly lecture-based and depend on rote memorization of knowledge. The best programs use many different instructional strategies that fully engage you in the learning process. Based on this brain-based research to support internalization of new knowledge, emersion in cultural and personal experiences with a new language is important to relaxed and active learning. With the wide diversity of people in this country, there are many opportunities to use the new language in an appropriate cultural setting that helps you process and internalize the language.

Mastery Learning of Chinese

Another key to selecting a foreign language program is allowing you all the time you need to learn and master the language. Mastery of learning moves beyond rote memorization of vocabulary to a level that the new language becomes second nature. After reading the different theories of learning you can see that everyone uses different strategies and techniques to learn, even if they do not understand why. Another aspect with knowledge of your learning style is that you do not learn at the same pace as everyone else. The Chinese program we offer supports learning at your own pace and giving you time to master the language. Mastery is attributed to how we learn and the ways we use a new language (Glasser, W.). The following demonstrates level of mastery when Chinese is:

- 70% – Discussed with Others

- 80% – Experienced Personally

- 95% – Taught to Someone Else

Examples of Mastery Learning

An example of 95% mastery is to teach someone else the meaning of yi gong which means all together in Chinese. This is accomplished by having the person take scattered items and place them together while saying the Chinese word. This helps you to internalize and learn as you observe using a whole-brain approach in an orchestrated/active environment. This example uses dominate learning styles that are Logical-Mathematical or Visual-Spatial.

A second example of 95% mastery is to teach someone else the meaning of yi gong by having them follow your actions. This is accomplished by having someone else emulate your motions as you both gather scattered items and bring them together. Again this uses the whole-brain approach in an orchestrated/active environment. This example uses dominate learning styles that are Verbal – Linguistic, Body – Kinesthetic, or Interpersonal.

A third example of 95% mastery is writing a short song that uses yi gong in a pattern or change the words in a musical lyric to include yi gong. Keep the meaning of yi gong in context at all times in the song or lyric. After completing one of these actives, think about how this fits within any of your other actions or situations. This example uses dominate learning styles that are Verbal – Linguistic, Musical – Rhythmic, or Intrapersonal.

“What are the top foreign languages to learn?” is probably the most frequent question I get asked by people who just start to learn a foreign language.

The assumption behind this question is usually that learning any language is an endlessly tiring task. For many, it’s a lot like asking “Which mountain should I climb first? The Everest or the Kilimanjaro?”

But what if I told you that you can master any language you set out to learn within 6 to 12 months? Would the choice of languages still be a problem?

You may be working on one or even several languages already, then it’s good that you know which languages you want to master. But if you don’t, you might be tempted to ask questions like “which are the top foreign languages to learn”, and “which language is the most useful?”, “which one should I start off learning?”

Some people may tell you that “the answer to your question “depends on the goal you want to achieve”, but something tells me that it’s not the answer you’d like to hear.

If you have ever asked one of those questions, I suppose you don’t feel strongly towards a particular language and just want to hear some general language learning tips, or maybe you just want to pick up a foreign language as quickly as you can.

But what if I tell you that the differences among all those “candidate languages” are almost negligible once you apply the right techniques? What if learning one foreign language is just as easy as learning another one? Which language would you choose to learn then?

The fact is, you should never listen to anyone who’s had a good or bad experience with a particular foreign language. Just because someone had a horrible time with Chinese doesn’t mean you will too. Everyone will feel differently about a specific foreign language according to his or her own education, background and social experience. By the way, did you know that Chinese is one of the simplest languages in terms of complexity?

The very reason that many people find Chinese such a demoralizing language is that Chinese is dramatically different from all alphabet-based languages. Asking a European to switch to a tonal language all at once is just as demanding as asking you to write with your right foot.

However, the same issue is not an issue at all for a new-born baby. Teaching a baby to speak a tonal language with much fewer grammar rules (Yes, day-to-day Chinese has much fewer grammar rules) could actually be more manageable than teaching the same baby a European language with a huge vocabulary and stringent grammar rules such as German.

With all that said, the top foreign languages to learn are:

Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Arabic, Russian

Those include the official languages of the United Nations. Since you are already reading this article, I presume that your English is well beyond “basic”, which is why English is not included here. How about German, which is not an official language of UN? Let’s see… 25% of the European population speak it and it’s the second most popular internet language in the world. The reason German is not listed as a UN Official language is highly political. It should, in fact, be one of the top foreign languages to learn.
