Best foreign language to learn for a person proficient in English?

tarmik92 asked:

Hi,
As you would have inferred from the heading, I want to learn a foreign language. I am currently in high school and already know basic german, but I have read online that Germans expect German to be spoken clearly and precisely. I can never acheive that level where I am study (due to lack of speaking partners). What do you all suggest? Continue German? Or some other language?. I am looking for one which is modern and logical and which increase job prospects. Thanks.

German. German all the way it’s such an easy language. Und es gibt alles.

In my opinion, go with Spanish, since there are so many Spanish people in the US. A lot of places will most likely pick you if you know Spanish over someone who can’t.

I’m a high school student myself, and I’ve taken 3 semesters of French and going to Spanish next year. The more languages you know, the more valuble you are to a company.

    :]
    Good luck.

I would go with a Latin-based language, Spanish or Italian.

I’m sure no-one would have a fit if you didn’t speak German accurately, because the grammar is difficult and if you told them you’re a student, they wouldn’t expect you to be fluent. As I read in a lonelyplanet travel guide, ‘bad German is better than no German at all.’ However Dutch is a lot easier and learner-friendly and the grammar doesn’t use case inflection.
If you want to learn German fluently, then the only way is to go there and speak it all the time. It’s a hard language to learn, but I still find it beautiful.

That’s good if it needs to be spoken clearly and precisely because then when you learn it you’ll be able to understand it better…even though you may have a lack of speaking partners where you’re from, the internet has tonnes of them, and you’ll never be short of resources with the internet too…

If you know basic German, continue with it! German is both modern, logical and it definitely increases job prospects as less people are taking it, and the German economy is still growing, so in the future there’ll be a gap in the market for fluent German speakers…

spanish is great to learn because of the amount of spanish-speaking people in the US. I’d say to continue with german, it’s a great language, i actually just started learning it.

I suggest you learn Mandarin Chinese, because we are surrounded by Chinese goods. I suggest you visit Hello! Mandarin’ s Live Class,, you will be able to learn Chinese face to face with Beijing teachers. You still can join online live class directly from Beijing and practice with volunteers. Online Course is much cheaper than classroom training if your budget is limited.
I hope this information is helpful to you.
